Medical Simulation Center- Provide Mock Surgery Training with Emergency Medical Technician-Professional (EMT-P)

Since 2021, the Medical Simulation Center has partnered with the Fire Department of Hualien County to provide Mock Surgery Training with Emergency Medical Technician-Professional (EMT-P), focusing on intubation techniques. Research results have indicated that improving the experiences and proficiency of EMT intubation has led to increased survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) cases.

In Taiwan, OHCA incidence averages around 9815 cases per year, with 30-day and 180-day mortality rates of 75.8% and 86.0%, respectively. It was observed that the OHCA patient survival rates were positively correlated with the rates of successful intubation. According to data from the Fire Department of Hualien County, the survival rate in 2021 showed a 25% improvement, marking a 7% increase compared to previous years. This notable increase in survival rates can be attributed to the combined efforts of the Silent Mentor Program and the practical experiences provided at TCU.
